The Isle of Man TT is Insane

Imagine you're walking down the sidewalk to go grab a coffee or bagel from your favorite spot.  You see some guardrails at the intersection and you remember, 'Ah yes, they're doing that race today.'

Some of you have had experiences with this.  Maybe it was a city marathon or a local 5k.  Maybe it was a holiday parade.  Maybe it was the Isle of Man TT.

The TT is the most insane and dangerous race in all of motorsport.  It is an intense race held every year on public roads on the small island between Ireland and England.  The 37.7 mile course is often surrounded by stone walls, homes, fields, and livestock.  Bikes average up to 132 MPH during the entire lap.
That speed would be very quick on a normal racetrack, but it's insane considering this is on public roads (closed during the competition of course) with many changes in surface, elevation, and grip.

The best riders in the world risk their lives to win the TT, which is the biggest race of the event.

Seeing the TT in person is on my bucket list.  I can't imagine watching these rockets go by at up to 200 mph in some places while just inches away from walls and stores.

The TT certainly makes the average town 5k or parade look like child's play.

Here's a great reaction of a man seeing the TT in person for the first time.  I'm surprised he was able to speak at all.

And here are some highlights of the actual racing to get a feel of the speed and danger of the event.

Alright, who wants to go with me?
